As your school or district shortcut library expands, organizing links into dedicated category folders—such as Athletics, Academics, Student Services, or Staff Resources—keeps your mobile app menu streamlined and intuitive for families.
💡 Linking Directly to Your App Menu: Linking a folder via App Builder > Menu Builder allows families to tap directly into that specific folder from the app's home screen or main menu without first scrolling through the general Quick Links directory. For full details on customizing menu layouts, see Menu Builder.
Creating a Category Folder
To create a new category folder for your shortcuts:
Navigate to Features > Quick Links.
In the upper-right action bar, click + New folder.
In the Create Folder dialog, configure the following settings:
Title: Enter a clear, descriptive folder name (e.g., Parent Resources).
Select Media: Optionally upload a custom icon representing the folder.
Website Only: Toggle ON if this folder should only render on web portals and not inside the mobile app.
Secured Access: Set audience visibility for the entire folder. Restricting a folder automatically protects all shortcut links housed inside it.
Click Ok to create the folder.
🔒 Important Note on Secured Access ("Visible only to")
Audience permissions require an authenticated user login. When a folder is restricted to a specific user group (e.g., Staff Members), users who are not logged in or lack the required role will not see the folder or any of its contained links.
Managing Links Inside a Folder
Click any folder tile on the dashboard root to view its contents. Inside the folder view:
Breadcrumb Navigation: Use the breadcrumb bar at the top (e.g.,
Quick Links / Athletics) to track your current directory depth and return to parent levels.Folder Action Bar: Use Edit Folder to update folder titles/icons, Delete Folder to remove the category, or + New to create a new link directly inside this folder.
Row Controls: Use the row-level action icons (pen icon to edit, folder icon to move, trash can to delete) to manage individual shortcut entries.
Linking a Quick Link Folder to Your App Menu
Once you have created a Quick Link category folder (such as Parent Resources or Athletics), you can feature that folder as a dedicated tile directly on your mobile app's main navigation menu using the App Builder:
In the left navigation drawer, go to App Builder > Menu Builder.
Hover over the menu section where you want the folder to appear and click + (or click New Item at the bottom of the section).
Select the new menu item to open its configuration panel on the right.
In the Label field, enter the display title for the app button (e.g., Parent Resources).
In the Function dropdown, select Content Folder.
Under Content Type, select Quick Links, then choose your specific Quick Link folder from the list.
Choose an icon under Select Media (from the Icon Library or by uploading a custom graphic).
Click Save to publish the folder shortcut to your live mobile app menu.
Moving Links Between Folders
If a link was created at the root level or needs to be reassigned to a different category:
Locate the link row in your table and click the Move (folder) icon on the far right.
In the Move Items to Folder dialog, open the dropdown menu to select the destination folder (or select the root directory).
Click Ok. The link is relocated immediately.
