Overview
The Hall Pass feature allows administrators and teachers to issue digital hall passes to students directly within the mobile app, on classroom devices, or remotely from the App Dashboard. This feature streamlines the tracking of student movement throughout campus while maintaining security, preventing hall wandering, and enforcing behavioral separation rules.
Access options across devices
Hall Pass supports schools with any device or mobile phone policy:
Mobile App (iOS & Android): Teachers and administrators can issue, schedule, and check in passes directly from their phones. Students can request passes and view dynamic countdown timers.
Web App (Chromebooks & Laptops): For schools with no-cell-phone policies for students, students can access the Web Version of the app on school-issued Chromebooks or computers. To provide access, navigate to your App Dashboard and use Share your app > Available as Web Version or distribute your school's universal web link.
App Dashboard: Full administrative control, live real-time hallway monitoring, reason customization, exclusion lists, and bulk pass issuing.
Key requirements
Students must have a Person record with an active Student Identity.
The Student ID field must be populated.
To request passes independently, students must be logged into the mobile app or school web app.
Students without devices can always receive passes issued directly by teachers or administrators from the dashboard or staff app.
Core capabilities
Live moving countdown timer: Active passes feature a dynamic animated countdown clock to prevent fraudulent static screenshots.
Immediate or scheduled passes: Issue passes for right now or schedule upcoming passes for library visits, counseling appointments, or helper tasks.
Group pass issuing: Select multiple students to issue group passes simultaneously from both the dashboard and mobile app.
Security PIN controls: Optional staff PIN requirement for pass issuance and returning check-ins.
Student Exclusion Lists: Prevent designated students from being in the hallways simultaneously with automated conflict alerts.
Scheduled pass balance replenishment: Automatically replenish student pass balances on recurring daily or weekly schedules.
Real-time auto-refresh: The active hallway pass monitor continuously updates without manual browser reloads.
Historical analytics: Access exportable audit trails via Analytics > Staff Reports > Hall Pass Report.
Best practices for campus rollout
Configure customized Hall Pass reasons and default durations tailored to your campus layout.
Set maximum capacity limits on high-traffic reasons (such as restrooms) to regulate campus-wide occupancy.
Designate key administrators or security personnel in Settings > Expiration notifications to receive real-time email alerts when passes expire.
Regularly review and update Student Exclusion groups, and utilize auto-expiration dates for temporary disciplinary interventions.
Train instructional staff on both dashboard and mobile app workflows for classroom flexibility.
