Creating Conversations

In the Dashboard (Teachers and Administrators)

Only individuals with Dashboard access (generally administrators, teachers and staff) can create conversations in the Dashboard.

Navigation:

  • From Home screen: Click Conversations tile, then My Conversations

  • Or click My Conversations directly in the left-hand menu

Steps to Create:

  1. In My Conversations, click New

  2. This brings up the new conversation window

  3. Give your conversation a title

  4. Select your participants:

    • Participants can be selected by group or individually

    • You can select multiple groups of participants, or multiple individuals

    • To send out bulk 1/1 messages please see section below.

  5. Decide if you want your conversation to be Public or not

    • A Public conversation can be joined by others based on certain settings

  6. Click Create Conversation

  7. The conversation window opens for your new conversation

  8. Type your messages in the text bar at the bottom right of the screen

  9. Click the arrow button to send your message

In the App

Steps to Create:

  1. Navigate to the Conversations icon in your App

  2. If you have unopened conversations, a bubble will appear stating how many conversations are unopened

  3. Click the Plus (+) button to create a new conversation

  1. You will be required to put in a title for the conversation and select participants, similar to the Dashboard

  2. Click the Plus (+) sign to continue

  3. The message screen will open - type your message

  4. Click the arrow button to send

In the App (Students)

Students can only create Conversations in the App, and can only do so according to administrator settings. Sometimes students do not have the ability to create conversations if the administrator chooses.

Key Differences for Students:

  • Students are generally limited to creating Conversations with teachers and administrators

  • May not have access to larger groups

  • Must follow any restrictions set by administrators in settings

Steps to Create:

  1. Navigate to Conversations in the App

  2. Hit the Plus (+) to create a Conversation

  3. Choose who to send the Conversation to (limited options compared to staff)

  4. Name the Conversation

  5. Hit the Plus (+) to create the conversation

  6. Communication can now start

In The App (Parents)

Steps:

  1. Tap the Conversations icon in your app

  2. Tap the Plus (+) button to create a new conversation

  3. Enter a title and select participants

  4. Tap Plus (+) to continue

  5. Type your message and tap the arrow to send

Your Permissions: Depending on your school's settings, you may be able to:

  • Create public conversations (others can join)

  • Create group conversations

  • Send messages to multiple people at once

  • See when others read your messages

  • View hidden users
