đ Secured Access requirement: To browse and join public or group conversations, users must be logged into their Edlio Mobile App account or Dashboard with appropriate role permissions.
When to Use Public Conversations: Public conversations are designed for topics that are most effective when openly discoverable by the school community. Rather than requiring individual invitations, any authorized user can find and participate. Ideal use cases include organizing campus committees, planning schoolwide events, coordinating athletics/club logistics, and sourcing parent or community volunteers.
Public Conversation Access: Open vs. Approval-Based
When creating a public conversation, the creator or administrator decides whether joining is instantaneous or moderated:
Completely Open Public Conversations: Any authorized user who discovers the conversation in their "Join Conversation" list can join immediately with a single click. They gain instant access to view the chat history and start posting messages.
Approval-Based Public Conversations: To prevent unauthorized participation while keeping the conversation discoverable, the creator can require membership approval. When a user taps (+) Join, a request is submitted to the conversation creator/moderator. The user cannot view messages or post until their join request is approved.
In the Dashboard (Teachers and Administrators)
Steps to Join:
Be sure you are in the Conversations feature in the Dashboard
Navigate by clicking Conversations tile > My Conversations, or click My Conversations in left-hand menu
When a conversation is set to public, it's available for any user to join
* Selecting the Public Check box when creating a new conversation, will set the conversation to public.
To join the conversation, click the Join button at the top of the screen
Search for the conversation and click (+) Join
You will be asked to confirm your choice
You will then be part of the Conversation
In the App (Teachers, Administrators, Parents and Students)
Steps to Join:
Navigate to the Conversations icon in the App
Click the Plus (+) button
Click Join Conversation
The list of available conversations will appear
Click the Plus (+) button next to the one you want to join
If approval is required:
A pop-up will appear
Click Send Request
The administrator of the conversation will have to approve your request
If no approval is required:
You will be confirmed immediately and can start sending messages in that Conversation
Note: Some conversations require approval to join. If the conversation requires approval, you must wait for the conversation administrator to approve your request before you can participate.
