Edlio Mobile App Options: Edlio App vs Individual App

Updated over 4 months ago

Edlio offers two ways for schools and districts to provide mobile app access to their communities. Both options deliver the same powerful functionality—the difference is simply how users access your school's content.

Individual App

What it is:

A dedicated mobile app customized specifically for your school or district, available directly on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

Key Features:

  • Custom branding: Your school's name and logo appear as the app title and icon

  • Direct access: Users search for your school's specific app name in app stores

  • Immediate school experience: Opens directly to your school's content upon launch

  • Dedicated presence: Your school has its own unique app listing in app stores

Best for:

Schools and districts that want maximum brand visibility and a dedicated app store presence.

*Individual Apps Require Apple Developer Account and Google IP Agreement*

Edlio App

What it is:

Access to your school's content through the main "Edlio App" available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

How it works:

Step 1: Download the Edlio App

Users search for and download the "Edlio App" from their device's app store.

Step 2: Location-Based School Discovery

  • App requests location services permission

  • Displays nearby schools automatically based on user's location

  • Users can select their school from the nearby options

Step 3: Manual School Search (if needed)

  • If school doesn't appear in nearby results

  • If user is not currently near their school

  • Click "Search" to find school by name

Step 4: School Selection

  • Once school is selected, the app transforms to display that school's content

  • App icon changes to your school's logo on the device home screen

  • App name remains "Edlio App"

  • All school-specific functionality becomes available

Step 5: Returning to Portal (Optional)

  • Access side menu within the app

  • Select "Exit to Portal" button

  • Returns to school selection screen to choose a different school

Key Features:

  • Same functionality: Identical features to single-tenant app once school is selected

  • Dynamic branding: App icon updates to school logo after selection

  • Multi-school capability: Users can switch between different schools if needed

  • Location-aware: Automatically suggests nearby schools

Best for:

  • Schools wanting a cost-effective mobile solution

  • Schools looking for a much simpler and faster implementation

Important Notes

Functionality is Identical

Once users access their school through either option, the app experience and available features are exactly the same. The multi-tenant app provides all the same:

  • News and announcements

  • Event calendars

  • Staff directories

  • Document access

  • And all other school-specific features

The Only Difference

The difference between these options is purely the path users take to reach your school's content plus the name:

1. App Store Presence

  • Individual App: Your school has its own branded app listing in app stores

  • Edlio App: Uses the shared "Edlio App" listing

2. Access Path

  • Individual App: Direct download → Immediate school content

  • Edlio App: Download Edlio App → Select your school → Access identical functionality

3. App Name Display

  • Individual App: Shows your school's name under the app icon

  • Edlio App: Always shows "Edlio" as app name (but icon changes to your school logo after selection)

4. Initial Setup

  • Individual App: Open app and start using immediately

  • Edlio App: One-time school selection step required

Choosing the Right Option

Consider these factors when deciding between Individual App and Edlio App:

Choose Individual App if:

  • Maximum brand visibility is important

  • You want a dedicated app store presence

  • Users prefer searching directly for your school's app

  • Simplified user journey is a priority

Choose Edlio App if:

  • Cost-effectiveness is a key factor

  • Users don't mind the extra step of school selection

Both options deliver the same powerful mobile experience for your school community—choose the approach that best fits your needs and budget.
