Roles & Permissions Overview

These are the different roles and what they can do for your app

Staff Roles

Administrators

  • Administrators see everything in the Dashboard by default. They have full control.

  • However, front-end app visibility depends on role assignment:

    • If an admin sets a resource (e.g. a handbook) to be visible only by a limited role (e.g., Parents), they will NOT see it in their own app.

  • To maintain visibility, admins must also select the Administrator role when configuring access.

    • Example: If a handbook is limited to Parents, checking only “Parents” means Admins won’t see it in their app. To fix this, check both Parents and Administrators.

Recommendation: Grant full Dashboard permissions to simplify troubleshooting and administration.

Teachers

  • Dashboard access limited to:

    • Conversations

    • Hall Pass

    • Create News (only if enabled by admins)

  • They can only create news within categories created by Admins and visibility is limited to opted-in users.

Recommendation: Disable “Create News” for teachers until you're fully comfortable with the app.

Staff

  • Have access to the app only and no Dashboard access.

Parents/Guardians/Relatives
